You'd be comparing something from Wiki to things that were on Empire Divided (before it went down). IMO, I think the players are looking for the arbalest we all saw in DW and in empire divided, no that.

I think the "Arbalest" is the only word they have for what they are talking about which is the rectangular polygon defensive structures that spit out lines of arrows also seen in DW5. At least that has been the understanding on a couple other sites. The giant crossbow people think of when they hear that is "Ballista", though Greek in nature I'm not sure if it has a place in China but heck, most of of the created characters don't fit in this era of China. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BallistaHey is there a map of China anywhere on here?

So, uh, yeah.
Technically in this first act there is no Zen? Ba Zeng is merely high-ranked general of Wei, right? So anyone who wants to be in Zen is technically a part of Wei but splits off with him afterwards (if that ends up happening)?

Their choice. There is a Ma Teng. So you can join Ma Teng, or Wei and break off. Ba Zeng just rules over Ma Teng after the act progresses, we'll say something like Teng dies of disease with Ma Chao too young to take over, so Ba Zeng unites the tribes and rules with Han Sui.

IMO, I think the players are looking for the arbalest we all saw in DW and in empire divided, no that. I assume people think the arbalest is the monstrosity that they see on DW. The gay looking red box, that fires 10-12 arrows at a time, that can seemingly aim right, left, up, down, and foreward. However, the idea for the box itself is illogical, and would never work. What I was suggesting, was a foot unit, that held a repeater crossbow. The closest thing the the Koei Arbalest, is a Ballista, like Er Aorong spoke about. And like he said, that is mainly a Greek design, and modified versions apear in roman armies as well. I also gave a link to the other crossbow, to show others what an arbalest truly is.

Wu gets their chance to rp like hell in a few days, so I'm not very worried there. The only reason I haven't been is because I've been waiting for the whole Xu Chang thing to happen.

Meh.
Matt, if your question was about making sheilded spearmen on horses, yes you can do that. It's rather expensive, though.
