Jesus, Hard Labor SUCKS!!![/u]
Pang Tong, Guan Shao, Zhao Yun, and some other person (ZY NPC) poured over a diagram. They talked, disputed, and cussed at each other as the sound of supplies being shifted to and from was nearly earsplitting.
Alright. Well, Liu Bei thinks that we need some defenses, as if the name of the city wasn't enough.
So, he's tasked us with this:
So, boys, what should we do first?
Nothing? Well then. Zhao, take you and your buddy there, along with some workers, and float the logs across the river, and start on the smaller camp. I'll take the brunt of the workers, and we'll start the clearing of that forest. We'll send some logs after, and the mini fort can be finished quickly. I think Bei's plan is to have it as a naval checking point, so some lochs wouldn't hurt either, or at least a moveable dam.
Get on that Yun, I trust you can do it effectively. Make it happen, Zhao Yun.
Alright then...
A big ass forest. Great.
Pang Tong kicked the nearest tree. It reverberated slightly, and a bird flew out the top, but otherwise, it stood there.
Allright, you, guys over there. Yes, peasantry. Your job is to start clearcutting this forest. I want it TOTALLY GONE. You've got a week. Chop chop, as they say.
You, my army. I want you all to start bringing any chopped logs that these guys have, over to that mountain range, nearest the river. We have to start construction on that fort. Use you horses, and drag the logs. Others, should attach them to pull carts, and pull. Use the extra horses we have, and it'll go faster. Milita, your in charge of this.
Everyone else, follow me. Grab a log while your at it.
The entirety of the Peasant workforce grabs their axes, and starts hacking away at the tree line, and within a few moments, trees begin to fall. Tong's army, withstanding the Militia men who are gathering logs to be transported with the extra horses, begin to mvoe toward the mountainside.
The men drop their logs, and then Pang speaks again.
Allright, our first business, is to begin the construction of the wooden fort here. It should rest against the mountainside, making its construction a tad easier, as there is one less wall to worry about. Okay, so lets get going then, eh?
Using nails brought from Pang Tong's Love Shack, the men begin pounding away, setting the logs into holes created by using shovels, so that the fort looks like a wooden palisade. The tops are spiked, to help deter using ladders, and making it easier to defend. Within time, the first of the Militia transports arrives. Carrying many more logs, they dump their load and return. Shao returns with them to oversee the deforestation.
Within time, the first half of the Camp's wall is done. Tong gives the men a break, while he thinks of a way to create a gate. He decides, that there won't, BE, a gate. Instead, he'll have a folding wall, that is stronger than a gate.
To design this, Tong returns to Pang Tong's Love Shack, and has the blacksmith create huge hinges, 20 sets of them, for other gates and the like. Taking 6, he brings them to the camp, where three are attached to the already existing wall.
Lord Tong, shouldn't you have a gate house? Its the only feasible way tha-
You, who here is the Grand Commander of Shu?
You, sir...
Thats what I thought. Now, with this way, the enemy doesn't know WHERE the gate is, perse, and thusly, can't attack a usually weak gatehouse, with a battering ram. But, then again, I don't expect simpletons such as yourself to understand... Now get back to work!
The hinges are fastened onto the large trunks that make up the pillars, and then the first half of the gate itself is started. It looks exactly like the normal wall, except a tad shorter on the bottom, so that it can swing open. This change can barely be noticed, unless the person actually got up close to the wall, inspected it, and said "Hey, there is more room here, infact, these aren't even in the ground. LA LA! Its the gate!"
So, with that in place, a lock was made, a simple wooden crossbar, that was the size of a tree trunk. It would be lowered into place with a pulley and gear system, making the effort of locking such huge gate, almost childs play.
The second half of the wall was begun, which must be finished before the gate could even be started...
Guan Shao rode back with the militia men. The peasant force brought, promised a high pay that would be delivered upon completion of their task, had already eliminated up to where the wall was supposed to start. These buggers were fast. The timbers were stacked in piles where the Militia men loaded them onto giant skiffs, which rolled across the ground as fast as the horses could pull them. To carry 10 logs, would take 15 horses going on all cylinders, and would take a good 2 hours to make it to the camp. The return trip only took about 30 minutes, as the skiffs did weigh a bit.
The Militia men would stack them, and then 15 riders would ride the horses to the drop point at the camp, and then they would return. They had two shifts, which alternated, as one went another came, so that the delivery time was every hour, 10 logs would be delivered. The rest of the militia men were tasked with pulling up stumps, using the remaingin 140 horses to help. They would tie ropes around them, after digging them out a little, and then use a few horses to physically yank them out of the ground. They would then fill in the holes with dirt.
The entire process was a lengthy one, but it worked. Within no time, a 3rd shift was started, so that they could deliver logs to Zhao Yun's camp.
The 3rd shift arrived, to where Zhao Yun's forces were. Taking a few of the horses, they forded the river, the horses not excellent swimmers, but effective enough. They carried ropes, that had hooks on them, so that they could float the logs across the river without losing any. The first few were strapped together, and half of Yun's forces floated across, so that they could begin their operation, which besides the transportation part, was entirely in Yun's hands...
